Meny Lukk

Montel News  30.06.2025    We’re all familiar with Dunkelflaute – low wind and solar in winter. But now we’re seeing a summer version: Hitzeflaute.

It’s hot. Demand is high because of cooling needs. But wind production is low. During the day, solar helps keep prices down. But once the sun sets, demand stays high – and prices jump.

What’s making it worse?

– French nuclear plants are being curtailed due to a lack of cooling water
– Gas plants can’t run at full capacity in the heat
– Wind is weak across many regions

This combination is putting major pressure on the grid – and driving prices up fast.
